The "chainmail bikini" is something of a trope in fantasy films, and owes more to the perceived demographic of the film's audience than any thought of practicality. Even though it's not chainmail it is claimed to be armour, despite offering no effective protection whatsoever!

Still, at least those muscle development morphs didn't go to waste.
