Around Ihl Rhouse, Pigna and Calvi

27 September

Did a local tour of artist locations, near Ihl Rhouse. Not a whole lot to see. Mostly closed up for lack of tourists. Visited the place of a local potter. His stuff looked like the things you would buy at Target. Also went to a few other towns looking for other artists. Most of the shops were closed it appeared, not simply because of time of day, but because the tourist season was essentially over. We did find a wonderful town called Pigna and walked around it a bit before having lunch. There was an incredible view of the sea and the adjcent hills. The restuarant had ok food, nice service and attractive umbrellas that they brought out when you sat down. We had a half bottle of wine and leslie had fish (may have been swordfish), I had some chicken salad. The town of Pigna's very much piled up on itself with some very winding walk ways, with many which end with views out over someone's roof and into the sea.

We plan to go back and check out the local artists. We left before they opened so that we could check out Lumio and other places.

From there we went to Calvi which is noteworthy due to the old fort there (which the British pounded with 30,000 rounds fired broadside at the place!). The town of Calvi is simply a tourist place with a bunch of shops catering to that crowd.

We did find this place where leslie bought some "essential" oils and a bar of soap. I got some preserves to eat with breakfast the day after.

From there we drove back home, got cleaned up and went back into Ihl Rhouse where we had dinner at a wonderful place (nice cutlery, tables, etc.) kind of trendy, architecturally speaking. The food was very good. Leslie had sea bass and I had tuna. Dinner came with a sun dried tomato mouse and scalloped potatos.
