World's Tallest Thermometer

At least, that's the claim in Baker, California, gateway to Death Valley.
It was 117 degrees when I took this picture, and shortly afterwards, my
car's "check engine" light came on, and sure enough, it began to overheat.

I had to drive the remaining 100 miles to Las Vegas withOUT air conditioning.
By the time I had arrived, the temperature had dropped to a balmy 110 degrees.

After our coldest, wettest summer ever in England.
I would like to visit this place for a while.
Just to get a bit of warmth back into my bones.

Yikes! That's a brutal section or road in the summer heat. You're a brave man, Gary..
I hope you stopped in at the "Bun Boy" for burgers and a shake!

The thought of driving through Death Valley with a dodgy light on....I'm not as brave as you, Gary !!
