Cheap Chromakey

I photographed the Easter Esther against 53" blue background paper I bought from B & H. I THINK it was this color: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/45646-REG/Savage_58_1253_53_x_12yds_Background.html The lighting was a mix of daylight and C50 (good for color) fluorescent lights in the ceiling. I then used Select Color Range in Photoshop to select the blue background and inverted the selection. I had to make a slight correction to eliminate the denim skirt in spots. I played with the Refine Edge to soften the selection to make it less obvious. I chose the background from a demo file I had downloaded from the net. I could also make a different background using render clouds and the render lighting effects (Omni) to make a lighter area around the bear. Used a bit of darker vignetting around the edge. I could have also photographed Esther against a green background and removed it similarly. Seems to me I don't need special software to remove a solid color background as long as it contrasts very well with the subject. Update: HOWEVER...having had more experience now with Photokey 2, my results with that program are far superior to this effort!

All in all it worked very well although I do see a slight blue edge around the Teddy. It is hard to extract completely when you have a furry edge. what about blurring the background just a tad?
