Lockheed L-749 Constellation

Lockheed L-749 Constellation.

My second fully built model in 2023.

One of the most beautiful airliners ever built with its famous dolphin shape.

It first flew in 1942 as a civilian airliner, but because of World War 2, its first use was as a military transport.

After the war it saw different versions. Basically varying in size, with engines of different amounts of power, etc.

Along with its bigger siblings (the L-1049 Super Constellation and L-1649 Starliner), they become the first real transatlantic airliners.

However by the early 1960’s they started to become obsolete when the first jet airliners (Boeing 707 and Douglas DC8 among others) went in service.

My Spanish origins “attack” again, so a little note here: Iberia, the Spanish airlines, had three of these (L-1049 version) and christened them with the names of Christopher Columbus ships: La Pinta, La Niña and La Santa María.

In the last picture you can see its Lockheed siblings (F-104, U-2 and SR71).
