Ed Shadle and his team, are trying to beat the world record of land speed with their "car", the North American Eagle.

Many people ask why that of NORTH AMERICAN and not just AMERICAN? Because, although most of the project is based in the US territory, to give recognition to two of their main sponsors, based in British Columbia, Canada, they decided to give it the "prefix" NORTH.

The North American Eagle is a VERY modified fighter Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. They're trying to push the record up to 800mph (1287 km/h - Mach 1.05). The actual one, in 763mph (1227 km/h - Mach 1.02) is in posession of Richard Noble and his team.

The car belonged to the USAF and was assigned to serve at Edwards AFB, California. Its serial number, 60763 says something to us: It was flown by important pilots such as Chuck Yeager, Pete Knight and others.

They've already reached speeds of up to 312mph, although during these runs at El Mirage, where these pictures were taken, due to some problems with the hydraulic systems, the maximum speed was "just" 250mph.
