Fiat CR-32 & Polikarpov I-16

Fiat CR -32 & Polikarpov I-16

Two models in one post this time. Theme: Fighters of the Spanish Civil War.

This nasty conflict went on from July 1936 to April 1939.

Helping the National side (led by General Franco) were Germany and Italy sending all kinds of war materials. Among these, different kinds of airplanes, like the biplane fighter Fiat CR-32. Although almost outdated by the time the war started, it still did a great service throughout the conflict, due among other reasons to its great maneuverability.
The model I’ve built is the one flown by the highest scoring pilot of this conflict: Captain García Morato, who achieved 40 kills.

The other model is the Polikarpov I-16, provided by the Soviet Union, who was helping the legitimate Spanish government. It was a more modern airplane with some of the standard equipment of World War 2 fighters: Monoplane configuration and retractable landing gear. Its advantage over other airplanes of the time was mostly higher speed.
