Capital Gorge

Capital Gorge is one of two canyons that slope away from the Waterfold. The canyon walls are deep, twisting, sheer walled canyons which have been carved by water flow. Parts very narrow (5 meters wide and hundreds of feet high) with other narrower canyons coming to an intersection with the main canyon. The canyon wall textures are from very smooth to deep water cuts. The colors of the rock walls vary depending on the time of day and if there is clouds, an incredible array of colors and textures.

Early Mormon settlers came up this narrow canyon with wagons drawn by horses or oxen looking to settle...somewhere. One information signs said that it took a number of men over two weeks to remove one boulder which was blocking their passage. Many of the settlers left their dated signatures on the canyon's lower smooth rock walls.
