The Catamayo Valley is one of the arid, rain-shadow intermontane valleys of the south between Loja and Cuenca. It is characterized by rolling hills of thornbushes and semi-desert shrub. At the time of my visit in January, following the rains, there was a burst of plant and flower growth and a lot of bird activity. |
