Exterior of Central Asia's oldest surviving mosque, the Maghoki-Attar Mosque in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. Maghoki-Attar (Pit of the Herbalists) was built in the 9th century and reconstructed in the 16th century. Under it archaeologists have found parts of a 5th century Zoroastrian temple and an earlier Buddhist temple. Today the mosque functions as a historic site for tourists and a carpet and prayer mat museum.
