Uva Mira
Stellenbosch, South Africa
Uva Mira is owned by Denise Weedon with Matthew van Heerden working
as both viticulturist and winemaker on the farm.
Uva Mira has been organically growing and exporting Protea’s and
conserving Fynbos for years. It plays a key function of business and conservation beliefs. There is no
doubt that the Cape fynbos although small and fragile, is a very valuable natural heritage. One
would have to go far to find more beautiful landscapes. We at Uva Mira believe this legacy must be
retained at all costs.
Uva Mira is perched atop the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in the
Stellenbosch region of the Western Cape. The vineyards are located between
420 and 620 meters above sea level. This altitude provides a cooler climate
in a section of the Helderberg that has been consistently producing some
of the best wines in South Africa for years.
Some of Uva Mira’s vineyards are over eighteen years old. We practise vertical
shoot positioning canopy management and bunch-thinning to enhance the high
quality of our crop, and also regulate deficit irrigation to ensure concentrated
flavours. Our criterion for production is highly coloured, rich, concentrated
fruit from low-yielding vineyards.
