Stop #12: The Wave (Coyote Butte)

 A rare and amazing place that requires a special permit and a 2-1/2 mile hike to get to.

The morphing and changing light gave the rocks a sense of almost being alive.
Early light set the rocks aglow with deep colors,
a polarizer transformed the harsh brilliant noon light into an indigo sky
and the long shadows of late afternoon gave the ridges expression.

Give me a chair ,an umbrella, a cool drink and I would sit in the middle of the Wave all day. It is so beautiful. Thanks for the photos.

We tried unsuccessfuly for months to get passes to this awesome place. Finally we just went to the ranger station at Paria Canyon and tried our luck at the lottery passes. We scored 5 that day, but 40 people left empty handed. What an awesome day we had hiking in there and seeing this gorgeous place. Your photos are BETTER than our amature ones....You did an amazing job of catching it's true essence.

We were lucky to get a permit last summer for THE WAVE
For us (my wife and myself) it was the highlight of our five week trip to the Southwest of the States.
Made pictures myself but your's are more wonderful than mine.
Hope to go there again sometimes because it's so awesome to see nature as it used to be.

After I saw your comment on my gallery I figured I would find pictures of the same location on yours. You have taken some very nice shots of the Wave. I still have to go through mine and find some more to post. You have given me inspiration to get back into my shots that day. You have also shown that I have plenty of other places to go back to. Just another excuse to make another trip out there. Thanks for sharing these awesome shots.

these are great pictures, i always thought utah has beautiful scenery/landscapes. drove through there going to arizona, would love to go back and actually spend some time.

Excellent composition of excellent subject matter.
However, these rocks are more red in real-life, and
your photos seem to show them as being more yellow,
but maybe this is your personal preference.

I think we were in Utah around the same time (I also went in September). We really wanted to go here, but time just wouldn't permit with all the other places on our itinerary. You've really captured this area beautifully and shown how different it can look depending on the angle and lighting conditions. What an amazing place! Very nice work.
