Taken at very last light
There wasn't much color at sunset, but just a soft cool light on the calm lake
A Self Critique:
Analysis of the scene:
The water is the one element that changes here.
Although the light changes, the tufa remains the same no matter what.
In the end the lake has an edge in expressive power here because it is the one physical variable.
Expressive Strategy:
So the theory is, to express calmness and serenity, including more of the calm Lake would have made this a more expressive image.
As it is, the image remains more static; nice perhaps, but static.
The why:
By static, the amount of Lake image area to the tufa image area is approximately a golden mean ratio.
The golden mean ratio is a point of harmony and balance, but static.
To create a dynamic expression implies more visual tension which requires imbalance.
The more one deviates from that balance point, the more expressive the image can be.
