To re-create the sense of how huge this tree really is becomes very difficult with the typical photographic formats.
By selecting a 3-image wide horizontal panorama, I was able to more effectively contrast the 17 foot diameter giant to the surrounding much smaller second growth trees.
Most of the redwoods around Santa Cruz were logged off and used to rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake and fire burned down the city.
Fortunately, this 329’ high giant survived
