The temptation was to zoom in on the old rusting truck for the "easy" shot,
to take in its rich textures amidst the weeds and wildflowers.
But then the inquiry starts...
Where is this truck on the planet?
Why is it here in this spot?
Interpretive strategy:
Abandoned by the side of a country road,
a road that it probably was driven on many, many times before.
The telephone poles indicate the path of the road and add a certain forlorn mood that suits the quiet scene.
I chose a wider format to express that the truck is but a small part of the landscape that it exists in.
One's eye is invited to dance horizontally along the higher contrast crest of the hills and wires;
tracing the path of the road where the cars whiz past, but not this old truck.
So there is visual movement against the static truck for the viewer to ponder.
But, I am not completely settled about the visual prominence of the telephone pole against the sky. I did place it slightly off center
and it is a device for the trampled path in the grass to point at.
