Repaired Nikon D1 test session

I just got my D1 back from Nikon's repair facility. I took it down to the river to test it out.I was using the 80-400 VR lens. It cost me $576 to get the diaphragm actuator lever repaired.My dealer had tried to charge me $704, plus $10 shipping ! Nikon allegedly fixed the TTL flash problem,repaired the AF system,cleaned the sensor,and cleaned the body,glued on a piece of rubber grip material,and updated the firmware to Version 1.05.It's still noisy at ISO 400 in RAW mode. These are MacBibble 3.1a auto-conversions to JPEG. The camera works,but the banding problem in lower light is still there even with 1.05 firmware. I would have been thrilled (was thrilled) with this kind of quality in 2001, but now I'm not happy with this kind of signal-to-noise performance since I live in a pretty dim,rainy part of the country. These photos would look great if they'd been shot in May or June, under higher light levels. I hope the next Nikon pro-class digital body can deliver ISO 400 performance as good as my Fuji S2's.
