This is the second shot in a sequence. In this case the D1's AF module seems to track focus fairly well for such low-contrast light as was present this day. Nikon said they "adjusted the AF system" when they worked on my camera,and indeed, it DID seem a bit faster and more-positive with the 80-400 VR lens, but I can't be sure about that....they had the camera for over two weeks,and I have not shot the D1 much in about 16 months,so....
