The famed Australia actor Russell Crowe is currently fighting to save one of late wildlife personality Steve Irwin’s wildlife reserves, according to the reports.

The actor took his campaign to the American public during an interview on The Late Show With David Letterman, driving more than 10,000 supporters to the petition “Save Steve’s Place”.

The petition calls for the preservation of a section of Queensland’s Wenlock River, owned by mining company Cape Alumina reported news.com.au.

Irwin’s widow Terri has led efforts to block the mine since 2007, when the company signalled its intention to fast-track plans to source aluminium at a site the conservationists claim acts as a “water filter” to the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve.

Crowe urged Irwin fans to honour the late wildlife warrior by supporting the campaign, and also complaining his efforts and attempts to discuss the matter with Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett had been ignored.
