Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress
“Nine-O-Nine”
Bomb Bay
Port side, looking aft
I have now moved from the top gun turret area, which is immediately aft of the flight deck area, to the bomb bay and am standing on the narrow 9-inch-wide catwalk.
The bomb bay doors are open and the asphalt pavement can be seen below. The bomb bay is one way to enter or exit a B-17.
The bomb bay is he preferred exit for bail out by the pilot, copilot, flight engineer (top turret gunner) and radio operator.
