MUOS-3 (Atlas 5) January 20, 2015

January 20, 2015 - 8:04 p.m. EDT - A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket launches the third Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite for the U.S. Navy from pad 41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

The 206-foot-tall Atlas 5 flying in its most powerful configuration will deploy the 15,000-pound MUOS 3, which will provide worldwide cellphone-like services to U.S. military forces on the move.

Photos taken from the Exploration Tower area at the port - about 12.5 miles from launch pad.
