098_Field Marshal Kurt Christoph Graf von Schwerin.jpg

Along the streets of Berlin, there are many statues.
Field Marshal Kurt Christoph Graf von Schwerin was a prominent commander in the Prussian Army. One of his famous achievements was the Battle of Mollwitz.
The Prussian cavalry collapsed under a heavy Austrian charge, leaving the position highly precarious.
Fearing an imminent disastrous defeat and the capture of the sovereign, Schwerin fiercely urged the young King Frederick the Great to flee the battlefield for his own safety.
Once the King had departed, Schwerin took full command and reorganized the highly disciplined infantry for a devastating counter-attack that ultimately broke the Austrian lines.
This masterstroke fundamentally altered European history by establishing Prussia as a dominant military superpower.
