The Berlin Wall stood for 28 years, from August 13, 1961, until its demolition on November 9, 1989.
It stretched for a total length of 155 kilometers (96 miles), with the section directly separating East Berlin from West Berlin measuring 43.1 kilometers (26.8 miles).
Today, only a 3 kilometer (1.9 miles) length of the wall remains. The longest continuous preserved section is known as the "East Side Gallery," famous for its murals.
