The wedding photographer didn't ask me anything. In any case, I wouldn't have understood Japanese.
I think that she and the bride's family all assumed I was one of the groom's guests.
As for the groom's family, they might have thought the opposite—that I was a second photographer—given my Asian heritage.
I had a feeling that the bride—who appeared both beautiful and intelligent—might have guessed it right; yet, displaying exquisite grace and thoughtfulness, she simply offered me a smile.
After taking a couple of shots, I bowed to them, congratulated them, thanked them, and left.
What a precious experience—an added bonus to my short trip to Japan:
