Kimberley, where the "The Big Hole" is found, is situated in the Northern Cape Province It is located near the confluence
of the Vaal and Orange Rivers and has considerable historical significance due its diamond mining past. From mid-July
1871 to 1914, 50,000 miners dug "The Hole" ("Die Gat" in Afrikaans) with picks and shovels, yielding 2,722 kg of diamonds.
