Craig and I were delighted by the appearance of these unusual ferns, and looked for them on all our hikes. We thought of them as very special, and were surprised to find out that they have a bad reputation with locals for making dense, thorny thickets--the island equivalent of a wild blackberry bramble, but without the berries.
