6-30-04 - Bad Moon Rising

Gaithersburg, MD

Tonight was a real bummer. Although I'm not sure tonight was officially a full moon, I declared it so and wanted to do a "blue moon" (second full moon in a month) thing. Unfortunately, I don't know what the [vice presidential expletive deleted] I'm doing on night photos. (Couldn't even moon right when I was a teenager.) I took over a dozen shots with all sorts of settings, manual and automatic, all RAW so I'd have the best chance of extracting something. The moon in this thing was the best I got of a perfectly clear and visible moon. :( I was working on a pitch black path with a small flashlight and my fuzzy eyes, so I wasn't sure what I had. On a lark, when returning to my car, I snapped a shot of the parking lot lights, so I just did a little PS combinatorial cut and paste and came up with this. I need to get a book, take a class, or get a real photographer (attractive middle aged woman, redhead preferred) to marry me. Should have shot a teacup or something tonight. I'm going to bed.

Dennis, LOL at your commentary but it did come out nicely. Really like the circular patterns in opposite corners.

Very nice, Dennis, keen eyes and well composed!

Lou, That's what I *wanted* to do, but I [vped] up the moon so badly that I didn't have one in proper focus. (Actually, my lens was set to infinity, but the over-exposure is so bad that it seems out of focus.)

Interesting view, would like to know what it gives with the moon sharp and the lights in dof.
