M53 / NGC-5024

Sedro-Woolley, Wa.

It is said that this globular cluster is about 60,000 light years away from the galactic center and about 58,000 light years from our location.
Its orginal discovery is attributed to Johan Bode in 1775 and was independantly discoveredand cataloged by Charles Messier in 1777.
One interesting thing about globular clusters in general is their study in connection with theories of star evolution. It seems that this cluster doesn't conform to accepted theories.
In taking pictures there is some interest in looking for info from experts; the range of contradictions found only increases the amazement at the wonders of the universe.
