WIZARD NEBULA / OCL-244 / NGC-7380 / LBN-511

Sedro-Woolley, Wa.

Image center RA: 22h47m19.47s DE:+58°08'24.4"
Celestial north left and celestial east down.
The field of view is about 17X25 arc minutes. In the constillation Cepheus.
Caroline Herschel discovered this open cluster, in the lower left center of the picture, in 1787. Her brother William included it in his catalog.
The open cluster about 110 light years in diameter is roughly 7000 light years away.
The cluster imbedded in the nebula is thought to be stars formed from the material in the surrounding nebula.
The red color is from ionized gasses while the blue tint is due to star light reflected from dust in the negula.
