Pennsylvania Road Hazard

Lost Creek, PA

Unfortunately the tires on this truck will outlast the truck body.
The chemicals that are used on the highways during the snow and ice season destroy the underside of the vehicles here.
It's common to see the corrosion eat fuel tank filler spouts, brake systems, fender wells and door frames.

wow I never thought about chemicals and the damage.. no fear of that around here huh. Surprising the chems don't attack the tires too?

Great capture, Dave. Looks like the Pennsy Road Monsters have been taking big bites out of this truck. That's why I weave a lot when I drive as to not give them a clean shot at my truck. Big Vote!

Ups...there must really be some hard stuff on the road.
Maaike Huizer23-Aug-2009 13:40
That doesn't look good.
Doug Cruden23-Aug-2009 10:14
That's some damage all right!

Used to be common over here as well, but modern cars seem pretty well immune to this sort of rust now. Nice catch.

Sad detail :-(

I guess that might be why I live in Texas...we don't have that issue. If it ices up here, they use sand. But, that rarely occurs but maybe once or twice a year. That truck doesn't look that old, either.

In the days when technology is moving so fast you would think a solution could be found...vehicle manufacturers must looooove this !!!
A sad sight, Dave.

Are you sure this vehicle isn't from upstate New York?!!
