Sunset Over Naha

Naha City (Near Shuri Castle), Okinawa

Looking over Naha City with the sun setting onto the ocean horizon.
The silhouette of Naha City can be seen at the very bottom of the frame.
Okinawa has spectacular sunsets and wonderful beaches to watch them from.

I spent my childhood on Okinawa, Machinato-Naha to be specific. I lived there from 1964 to 1970. It was a wonderful
place to grow up. Creeks to play in, caves and more caves to explore. The cultural differences where amazing to us,
me and my sister. We lived on base in Machinato & would go out the back gate. The Okinawaian children in school; all
in their uniforms, even their hair cuts where the same. We would go to a place that was called Black Market Alley and buy rock candy, paper candy (my mother called it fly paper. They had every unusual tasty treat you could think of.
We found Ryubos department store. The only 3 story bldg we thought existed on Okinawa. Toilets on the floor, open sewage. Of course we got lost, couldn't work the pay phones because we didn't speak the language. We finally found an Okinawain police officer who took us all the way home. We had a lady that came to our house everyday to take care of us & clean the house. We had a fabulous seamstress name Suseko. We would pick out from pictures what we wanted her to make and she could make anything! We loved them like they were are family. We saw more of them than our own families. We had a man that would come and drop off a case of different flavored soda's, someone that mowed our lawn. There was even a pastry truck that came around on Sunday Mornings. It was the most wonderful place to grow up. We never stayed inside unless we were made to. There were buses that would take us to the skating rink, the swimming pool or the beach. This was the adventure of my life!

Okinawa is a beautiful Island. I was stationed at Kadena in 65 - 67, at Naha with F-106s in 69 and back to Kadena with the 18th TFW in 70-74.
I used the Nikon F-2 for many years, now using the Nikon 8800 ana an Olympus 400.
You have taken some great Photos.

Thanks for your nice comments Steve. No upgrade yet! I'll keep the 707 for now. I like the 828 (minus the apparent problems), but will wait for the next wave of 8MP cams to be announced. I often consider a DSLR, but dread the thought of packing heavy gear around again. I did that for years starting with my Canon A-1 in the late 70's.

Nice work Dave! Did you upgrade to the 828 yet? I don't see why you need to with the quality you put on with the 707.

Thanks Geoff! This is one of my favorite sunsets. Not only for the nice image, but also for the location and other personal meanings.
