Built in 1878, it has been called the State Lunatic Hospital at Danvers, the Danvers State Insane Asylum and in more recent times simply the Danvers State Hospital. It closed in 1992 and has since been developed into a series of new built apartments that surround the original building. I remember living as a young kid several miles north of the site and everyone knew about it's notoriety. Residents of Danvers would tell of the howling and screaming coming down from the hill at night. Kinda spooky.
