Of course we have now turned into Iron Cove. This was once known as "Long Cove" because of its shape.
It seems that the change to "Iron Cove" arose from the thick forest of ironbark trees which grew
here. It has seven kilometres of cycle/pedestrian foreshore reserve around it, known as the "Bay
Run". This might be worth walking in its own right except that it looks and sounds somewhat like
the route around Hen and Chicken Bay from last time.

Here we see the steel truss designed Iron Cove Bridge which was originally opened as a four lane
crossing in 1955, replacing a much older two lane affair. From the beginning it was basically
inadequate. Victoria Rd planners always seem taken by surprise at the volume of traffic which the
road finishes up having to cope with. In the last few years an additional three lane duplication
has been built but the road it serves is in desperate need of an upgrade, all along its length.
