I pass a lot of highwayside housing. This one looks pretty typical. Many of these were built in the
1950s but I suspect that this one was a 1970s version. It shows the triple front with a verandah on the
rear most front - very popular around 1970. Everybody wanted red texture brick back then but a
shortage (due to demand) kept prices for this material high and many people resorted to weatherboard
(timber) or even flat "fibro" which contained asbestos. Many people economised by going to cement
roof tiles and by lowering the pitch which reduced the need for extra roof supports and reduced the number
of tiles required. Over the intervening 40 years, many people replaced the asbestos board or rotting
timber cladding with either plastic or aluminium siding. I suspect this house was a case in point.
