Here we are looking back to the beach across the breakers. The local Life Saving clubs have proud
histories. On 6 February 1938, 5 people drowned and over 250 people were rescued after a series of
large waves struck the beach and pulled people back into the sea, a day that became known as "Black
Sunday". Based on the events of recent history, one is inclined to believe that the beach experienced
a tsunami that day. Here we see one of the "Icebergs" taking a swim in the club's tidal pool. All I
can say is "Brrrrr".
