We can see across the bay to the Australian Naval base, HMAS Kuttabul and the Garden Island
dockyard. Kuttabul is one of the two major East Coast naval bases, the other being Jarvis Bay on
the NSW south coast. There were only four ships to be seen, all of them American built FFG class
frigates. One of them, HMAS Newcastle (left), seemed to be making ready for departure someplace.
Australia presently has naval commitments in the Persian Gulf, The west Indian Ocean off Somalia
and the Solomon Islands. At present there's also a lot of activity off the west coast, catching
illegal people smugglers. Busy busy!
