This metal grid surface is the section of the bridge which actually swings up to allow the passage
of harbour traffic. It happens eight times a day, beginning at about 10:00 am in the morning and
ending at 9:30 at night. On weekends the first opening is at 8:30 am. A higher, wider bridge which
can carry vehicular traffic AND continuously allow the passage of marine traffic is sorely needed.
