A huge motorcycle rally goes by on Avenida 9 Julio
We have been working at figuring out the bus system, known as the Colectivos. They are very cheap (about 30 cents) but they used to be a trial to understand.
This visit brought three welcome surprises:
1. New bus lanes down the center of Avenida 9 Julio (shown here) make getting through the most congested part of the city much quicker
2. A new swipe card, the 'tarjeta sube' eliminates the need to hoard small change (moneda).
3. There is now a decent interactive route map on the internet. I wouldn't even attempt to describe the fiendishly complex route book that formerly one was obliged to buy at a kiosko.
As an added bonus the city no longer has its once chronic moneda shortage...
.... and one can actually breath when one walks downtown on the narrow streets where the buses ran before the new bus lanes were constructed.
