This was Halloween morning, a couple of days after the storm came through.
Our neighborhood was without power but a walk of perhaps 30 blocks north would deliver one to a relatively normal city.
These quys were on 6th Avenue on the way up. I don't think their shop had power either but still they were out on the corner giving away free samples.
I think the photos convey the attitude of many of us who inhabited 'The Land of Darkness'.
It was frustrating at times but obviously nothing compared to so many who were devastated. So why not smile about it?
Later that night we stumbled upon a tiny makeshift battery powered Halloween parade on Greenwiich Avenue. Flashlights, torchs, lanterns and costumes that flashed and blinked...
The cops were rather insistent that it stay on the sidewalk, the street was dark and dangerous, and perhaps a bit annoyed that they had to deal with such nonsense.
But they didn't shut it down. We joined in for a few leisurley blocks. Magic moments!
