Formwork for above ground section of pier (450mm diameter sonotube about 900mm high) was set in place and levelled at the end of the day after the base was filled in. The concrete for this will be mixed and filled the next day on top of the roughened top of the base concrete. The reinforcing cage protrudes from the concrete base and will ensure the two pours are permanently tied together, although even without this it would be impossible to move the pier once the concrete sets.
