Miss Merrymaid - Now Named Sunchaser, and sister boat Miss Memory - Now Named Blue Belle
With a Safari fibre-glass hull and grey superstructure with a sliding-wheelhouse from Hampton Boats, she and her sister boat were carefully completed by Bill and Jack Jenner at their small boatyard, Maidencraft of Thorpe, and from 1970 hired out as 2-Berth holiday cruisers for around 25 years. The Jenners were proud of of their small mixed fleet (8-10 boats), and especially proud of the boats they had built themselves - including the two Safaris.
She (Miss Merrymaid (Y29)) was advertised by Hoseasons as one of the two boat Miss Memory Class - Miss Memory (Y55) being her sister boat.
Information at the Norfolk Broads Forum http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk suggests that Maidencraft sold her in 1995, when she was re-named Miss Memory. In 2008, she was refurbished and bought by the present owner. She is now named Sunchaser, and is moored on the Waveney.
My wife and I spent happy holidays on Miss Merrymaid between 1972-1974. In 1976, we introduced our 1 year old son to the Broads, holidaying on Miss Memory.
