MARIETTA — Services for Hazel Bell Nicholas, 96, of Marietta, Okla., are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012, in the First Baptist Church, Marietta, with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, Okla., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.

Mrs. Nicholas was born August 21, 1916, at Leon, Okla., the daughter of William Riley and Lillie Mae Simmons Roberson. She passed away Sunday, November 4, in an Ardmore healthcare facility.
A homemaker, Hazel volunteered at Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta for 22 years and wrote “Voices from Lake Country Manor” for the local newspaper. She also assisted students in the Oklahoma Baptist University Scholarship Program for more than 25 years. Mrs. Nicholas was a member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Doy Boyett; son, Joe Boyett; and two brothers, David Roberson and Clifford Roberson.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Boyett of Lithia, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Burkhart of Marietta; brother, Herman C. Roberson, also of Marietta; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Bob Burkhart, Bill Russell, Cal Blackwell, John McBride, Bill Dvorak and Joe Martin. Honorary bearers will be members of the Senior Ladies Class at Marietta’s First Baptist Church.

Viewing will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
