David, I am the granddaughter of Sarah Elizabeth Boyett(e), maiden name Dormany, born May 16 1869 who was the postmaster at Boyette Florida. She died in 1946 and is buried at Pelote Cemetery.
She was the wife of Samuel Thomas Boyett who is also buried at Pelote, he died at the age of 42 in 1905. She later married a H. R. Alderman according to the 1910 census. In 1915 she married Isaac Clark. Samuel and Sarah had 4 children Harvey Edward (my father), Pammie, Sankey and Tommie, all three were girls and my dad was the only boy. I have been researching my tree and have traced Sarah back to her grandparents but am not having any luck in finding the Boyetts.
I also haven't been able to determine the relationship between James M Boyett who was the postmaster at Peru and Samuel Thomas Boyett.
I have read many of your postings on the internet and you seem to have more Boyett information then any others.
My maiden name was Barbara Joyce Boyette born in 1938 and I grew up in on Boyette Road, Lithia Florida. Sarah lived in Boyette Florida on the Fishhawk Creek and my dad's property was on the opposite side of the creek.
Sincerely
Joyce Rich

Thanks for your reply. I found it interesting that you were born in Gainesville, Texas as my brother-in-law, Lanny Lyons and his wife Sylvia live there. Do you know them? Lanny worked for Babcock & Wilcox. After retiring, he taught in the public schools in Gainesville. Sylvia also was a teacher in the public schools.
I have not worked on the Boyett/Kersey family for some time. I go to Tampa every two to three months and have abstracted some of the obits on the Boyett and Kersey lines. The earliest [posted online] is from the Florida Peninsula issue of 3 April, 1858 notice of James A. Boyet's intention to apply for Letters of Administration on the estate of his father, Edward Boyet, Sr. The Hernanado Courthouse does not have the record because of fire destroying the records in the 1860's.
I have an excellent range, township, section map of Hernando County [and other counties] from the Florida Department of Transportation and have pinpointed the properties of the armed occupation permits of the early Boyett pioneers. The Department of Transportation maps show detailed back roads, some churches, cemeteries and the sections of the Townships. The Department has an office in Bartow at 801 North Broadway Avenue, 33830. [ North Broadway is Highway 98].
James A. Boyet had several properties within Brooksville and it's outskirts. Edward, Sr. had property north of Brooksville along the present day Citrus County line. John's property straddled where the railroad is and included the airport [or most of it] that you mentioned in one of your e-mails. I did not notice if you had the Senior Edward Boyet's permit or not. The location was in Range 19E, Township 21 S, and was the E 1/2 of the NW 1/2 and the W 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 16. Date of permit #125 was 23 January 1843; date of notice 4 January 1843; surveyed 28 June 1847.
Re: Hammock, Jackson:
In one of your e-mails to Brenda, you have the 1850 census listing a Jackson Hammock and children including a daughter, Nancy, age 20. Next door to Jackson Hammock is Edward Boyet age 33 and wife Nancy age 20. These two Nancys are the same person. Nancy's mother was Lydia Passmore. Edward J. Boyet, Jr. and Nancy Hammock married about 1849 in Hernando County. Edward Jr. was born either 1817 [0r 1812] in Screven Co, GA. He was 5' 6" tall with light skin, dark hair, and grey eyes. He was a farmer and was a single man when he applied in 1843, for 160 acres of land in the Chicuchatta Hammock. He served in the 3rd Seminole War and the Civil War. Edward Jr. died on 5 June 1874 in Hillsborough County and is buried at Pelote Cemetery at Lithia in Hillsborough County. Nancy was born on 25 January 1830 in Alabama and died on 22 January 1902 and is buried at Geiger Cemetery in Zephyrhills. They had Sarah, Fannie Narcissus, Martha A, Cynthia, Thomas, Lidonia, Missouri E., and William Perry Boyett.
I will be glad to share info with you. I am impressed with your research.
Until later,
Michael and Garland,
You should have several more related (Group 2) lines in the Tampa area. This looks like a son of Edward Sr.:

Hi guys,
I finally got a chance to sit down with Randy and it turns out his Mom had the family bible. No doubt of it, he descends from Nathan's youngest (I believe 13th child) Henry Leroy.
We signed onto the website for the DNA project and he sort of balked at the price. I told him I would split the cost of the 37 marker test ($189) just to get him in the project. He thanked me and said he would let me know, but that he probably will join. I'll keep you posted.
Hope all is going well with you and yours,

Just to answer off the top of my head and not verify dates at this time:
Nathan's birthdate is closest on the 1850 census.
Thomas Ashley was the son of John, Nathan's older brother, so yes he was a nephew of Nathan.
James M. (my great-grandfather) was the son of Thomas Ashley and therefore Georgia's first cousin, once removed.
Hope this helps!

COMMENTS: Take the Gibsonton/Riverview exit of South I-75 and go East on Boyette Road. You will come to an intersection where Boyette meets Bell Shoals Road. Take Boyette to the right. (Notice the "Cracker" Simpson homestead immediately to the left after you turn. It sits just a few feet off Boyette Road behind a fence. This homestead was "squatted" around 1885. It won't be there much longer.) Boyette Road will zig-zag out into the country. You will come to another intersection where Boyette turns to the left and the road continues straight ahead toward Balm. Make sure you turn left to continue on Boyette Road. You will come to a Stop Sign and you are there. Notice the RR track has been removed where it used to cross the road.
REMAINS: Nothing there anymore. Supposedly the cemetary is still there but has not been found in years. Exists somewhere in the pasture.
Boyette P.O. was established in 1902 by Sarah Boyette and named the town for her Father, Thomas Boyette. This farming community once was a thriving little town that boasted a general store with a gas pump(to the south of the road), a sawmill (also to the south), A Railroad Depot with loading ramp for crops to be loaded, a church & cemetary (turn left at the Stop sign and around the bend on the right), dance hall (directly across the road from the stop sign), Turpentine still (across the road to the left), and a Railroad Section Foreman with a crew to keep the tracks fixed. Mr. Wilson (home used to be on the left or North side of road. Notice the ornamental plants that was once a front yard) was an early stationmaster and telegraph operator. A.T. Bennett was the section foreman for the area of track and he and his crew of workers kept the RR track in good working order. The area where they lived was called the "section houses" straight south of the stop sign. This was a rough area and there were shootings and stabbings nearly every weekend. Occasionally moonshine stills would be brought out of the swamp and were busted by the authorities. Founding families included the Simmons, Hobsons, Sumners, Wilsons, and of course Boyette. The town died when the RR was removed and all the residents either died or moved away. Submitted by: Mike and Aaron Woodfin

Our gene soc here in Brooksville is rather abysmal as all the members are from up north and no one has any interest in local history or genealogy.
Per your DNA site, referencing the 1850 census, you state Edward J Boyett's wife Nancy is the child of Lydia Passmore and is the same person as the Nancy listed with Jackson Hammock'shousehold.. Lydia Passmore was Jackson Hammock's wife. She died before or right after the family moved here to Hernando.
The three oldest daughters, Eliza, Nancy and Rebecca (Becky) did not make the move to Madison, they per family lore, married in Hernando Co. Jackson remarried while in Hernando Co to Sarah Whitehurst before moving to Madison Co in 1856. Per your DNA site, you also give the burial location of Nancy as Geiger Cemetery in Zephryhills and Edward's as Pelote Cemetery in Litha.
Would love to connect with some of Nancy and Edward's descendants. My phone number is 352-277-2799 if you would like to talk.

Any indications that Nancy moved to Madison Co? At age 20 in Benton Co she may have married a neighbor such as Boyett? Autosomal DNA tested could be helpful (includes all of your male and female DNA lines back to abt 1750). Only a small chance that 1. Nancy had children and 2. someone from the lines have taken the Autosomal test and 3. from the same lab/database register.
Are you a member of any local genealogical societies?
David

Yes I have researched that family, actually I did not have to "research" it, I live it! Those are my great grands. Samuel (same Samuel in the 1850 Benton Co census in Jackson Hammock's house). Their youngest son, Sam Jr. born in 1886 was my grandpa. I have family info for all of Sam Sr's brothers, other than what I learned from your DNA site, I have none on the females.

David,
Nancy Hammock was the sister of my great great grandfather,Samuel Hammock. Jackson's(Nancy and Sam's father ) first wife was Lydia Passmore. I have been trying to find out who Sam's sisters married for the longest time. Any info you could share regarding Nancy's descendants would be greatly appreciated.
I am a native of Hernando Co,and still live here.
You may call me if you like, 352-277-2799. I am in Tampa quite a bit at the VA. Maybe we could meet and share notes sometime.
