Langston DNA Surname Project - 32003

Samuel M. Langston, my great, great grandfather, was born about 1831 in Arkansas. He married Mary A. Bostick 30 Dec 1853 in Izard County, Arkansas, and they had twelve children, only two of whom lived long enough to marry and have children. By 1870 the family was living in Crawford County, Arkansas, where they remained the rest of their lives. Samuel died 2 Nov 1879, and Mary died 1 Nov 1910. Their children were Hiram McDonald Langston and Margaret Jane Langston.

Samuel’s brother Daniel M. Langston was born about 1833, and he was also in Izard County, Arkansas, when Samuel and Mary married in 1853, and in the 1860 census, he was already in Crawford County, but we have never been able to find Samuel or Daniel in the 1850 census and don’t know who their parents were. We suspect they are related to the five Langston siblings who settled in Arkansas about 1820. These five were orphans of Caleb and Elizabeth Langston. Caleb was the son of Absolom Langston and Christian Bennett, who lived in Granville County, North Carolina, and moved to South Carolina. This Absolom is descended from the John Langston who lived in Nansemond County, Virginia.

Hiram McDonald Langston, my great grandfather, was born 8 Mar 1870 in Crawford County, Arkansas. He married Lillie Mae Morris there 23 Dec 1900. Hiram died there in February, 1917. Hiram and Lillie had seven children: Charles Theodore, Howard, Samuel, John, twins Herman and Sherman, and Nelly. After’s Hiram’s death, Lillie and the children moved to Orange County, California.

My grandfather Charles Theodore Langston was born 9 Aug 1909 in Crawford County, Arkansas, and died 19 Apr 1974 in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Hazel Lucille Coffman, who died 4 Nov 1975. They had four children: Norma Jean, Charles Theodore, Betty Carol, and Jackie Lee.

Charles Theodore Langston, my father, was born 28 Jan 1930 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He married Dorothy Edna Jaquess 3 Mar 1950.
