*Just a bunch of cunts mate* came the reply,with a look in his eye that made me glad I wasnt German 60 odd years ago.Tom a Commando in the second world war answer was to a question I asked him if this and subsequent British goverments have made this country a better place to live after all the sacrifices him and his comrades,many fallen,had made.
I must say I could not agree with him more ..........

I want to be as eloquent as Lawrence but cannot. All I can say is that I've never seen a better street photographer than you - which means to say that you capture more than items on a street.. stories.. lives... emotion Don't you change a thing...

For what it's worth, you can add my opinion to this Dave... These guys have more than earned the right to express their opinions about the government they went to war for. Some may not be the most angelic, open minded or forgiving in their views of today's world, but people like you and I live as we do today today only as a result of their sacrifices. So in exchange, I think it's a reasonable trade to permit the occsaional profanity. As for your quoting of him and using it in your title, this gallery would not be the same without it (or something of similar strength). Normally, we'd see pictures like this and all sit and sigh at how these brave men continue to graciously live out the end of their noble lives. Your title and intro changes that "reality" drastically. A very different picture is painted with those smiles. Like pantone300, I find this debate somewhat predictable. While I can understand it, when you step back from it, even without putting it into the perspective of the 50 million odd lives lost in the war, it still is [as Rob said] rather strange. Anyway, very nice pictures and within the context of the meaning behind the images, I commend you on publishing this unedited. Gmv

Hello Rob, Yes indeed mate these words do spring from very old English terms ,some started out quite innocent in fact.QuoteIsn't it strange though how we find a simple (and ancient) word so disturbing when compared to the events that took away many of the people being remembered on Sunday? We are a strange animal indeed Exactly my take on things Rob.I was hoping that people would put aside thier reasons for feeling offended and just realise and reflect perhaps on Toms and many like him situations. With respect to people who do feel ofended by such titles this makes it very dificult to paint a picture from real life events and quotes from the main subjects within the piece. IMHO photographers sould not have to feel guilty about any content(within reason of course)so long as the pictures and titles/captions are factual. I've really enjoyed this gallery Dave, really emphasises the human side versus the tradition and ceremony. I don't object to the title - it's a quote and in context. Isn't it strange though how we find a simple (and ancient) word so disturbing when compared to the events that took away many of the people being remembered on Sunday? We are a strange animal indeed. Hi Chris, Many thanks for your comment. Yes,Im glad you understand the context and whats behind the reason for the title. Tom,like my self,come from very very humble and working class backgrounds and foullanguage is just a way of expressing ones self partly because of having had a very limited education.It goes with the turf as it were. Its a way of life that perhaps other have not experienced and view swearwords in a different light.Of course only using them in appropriate situations may I add. I thought the title did befit the appropriate situation I found myself in with Tom. All the best Chris Dave ...............

Hi Steve, Firstly sorry if the C word caused you and others offence,that goes without saying. Steve,Tom poured his heart out to me describing his life and matters regarding the British Goverment ( all the reasons would not be fair or right to state them here)and the way they treated him and his family and indirectly causing the death of his dearly loved wife. After hearing Toms sad story and thinking long and hard regarding a title for this set of images I decided that his words were very apt and befitting the vemon he directed towards the people in power ,now and then,that were supposed to support him in HIS hour of need but let him and his loved ones down very badly after he laid down his life for a country he then believed in but in the end they forgot him and the hell he went through. Twats would have probably been a good compromise.I yearn for the day when all politicians are made to suffer like the rest of us for their mistakes and incompetence.As for the photographs they are a priceless collection of portraits of real heroes to whom we owe a huge debt and they should all be remembered and never forgotten or neglected.

Erm !!! the word cunt was exactly the term the gentalman used in a moment of anger of feeling let down by his own goverment over the years. Just to educate you a bit the UK pension that an elderly person recieves is one of the lowest ones in Europe and infact of what he and many others of his age went through is perceived by him and many of his peers as an insult.I tend to agree. If you cant deal with the reality and the realness of the situation then I suggest you wrap yourself up in cotton wool and lock yourself up in a box. Get real mate.
