Art, I found one of their eggs and reared it. Had to wait while it was pulsating all winter. The minute it emerged and while it expanded its wings, it's wings were fully scaled and brown and as I watched it a few hours later, during its first hesitant flight, I witnessed the shedding of the scales. I have yet to find out in research why it has scales to begin with. Lovely image.
