11-25-2005

Moraine State Park, PA

Lots of snow fell the past few days. The woods are bare of leaves now. I took some time to go for a little stroll to see what I might find. I had hoped to see some animals and while I did spot a few small birds it was mainly human footprints I found. Deer season begins in a few days and there are many men walking around today picking their ambush spots for opening day. I can tell by the tracks left by the deer that many of them have moved from this area to the other side of the road where there is no hunting allowed. Perhaps the number of men tramping around today will lessen the number bagged on Monday?

As I walked I spotted some color in the brush. I had to investigate of course. What I found was a small apple tree growing golden delicious apples! Someone hiking must have thrown a core out and darned it it didn’t grow! There were a number of deer tracks around the base. They must stop by on occasion seeing what has fallen. I wonder if any hunter will stake out an ambush here?
