Pittsburgh, PA

At lunch today I decided to go for a walk even though it was very overcast out. Grabbing the big lens I went around behind the museum. Again, I followed my intuition as to where to walk. I headed down some steps behind the Frick Fine Art building and sure enough, there were turkeys. I spotted at least 3 or 4 adult females and I don’t know how many chicks. Being that I just could not get a decent shot of these easily spooked birds form the stairway, I finally left it. Approaching on knees and one hand, I kept them in sight with the other holding the lens up to my face. This technique seems to work with animals, not seeing eyes; they must not really know what to make of me approaching. (Too bad this doesn’t work with people too!)

Anyway, I was able to get close in the thick brush and get this shot. After they finally wandered off, I stood and began to make my way back to the stairway going up the hill. It was at this point that I noticed I had just crawled through all sorts of garbage and broken beer bottles thrown here by bums. I can’t believe I didn’t get cut! LOL

I shot these same Wild Turkeys, Meleagris gallopavo a while ago with one of them being my PAD for February 11th, 2004.
