Scottdale, PA

I traveled to the West Overton Museums near Scottdale, PA to see their Civil War Weekend festivities. It’s a wonderful place with a lot of beautiful grounds. The re-enactors were plentiful, with the majority being Confederate soldiers. I spent almost all day just wandering around snapping away. I got this shot by being practically on the battlefield across from the spectator area. If I would have been were “civilians” were supposed to be, I would have gotten very poor shots. The battle would have been far off and the background would have been cluttered with a highway and modern buildings. Thankfully, no on chased me off; I think people assumed I was supposed to be there. I know the muzzle flash is very bright but I still enjoy this shot a lot. To see more, please feel free to visit my gallery of photos taken a the Civil War Weekend.

Awesome shot, Ron. I love the light on the soldiers face (the one nearest the flash). Well done.

Thank you! I fixed that typo! That's why I don't write any text at the museum where I work...LOL

Great shot, Ron (no pun intended!) I enjoyed meeting you on Sat. Just one small error...it's SCOTTDALE not Scottsdale. That's in Arizona. Looks like you got some great photos. I love your site. Stop back out to the museum anytime.

WOW!!! This is INSANE! ALthough I never understood why people want to dress up and re-enact WAR...I see the photo fodder there, and for that, I might consider watching!

Absolutely brilliant shot, which you're right, you wouldn't have been able to get if you'd have been standing elsewhere.

I think the muzzle flash makes the shot. Would be interesting to see how sepia toning would affect this photo...

I've learnt that you have to be brazen in this hobby sometimes, and here it certainly paid off. The muzzle flash certainly seems to have illuminated their clothing. A great scene. I could see myself at this event just snapping away until my battery ran down and/or my card got full...
