TVC started in 1960 to accomodate Tibetan orphans and children of which the parents went elsewhere to work.
There are now 5 TVC's in India which house 6120 children (2000 in McLeod Ganj) as well as 128 elderly (numbers date from april 30 2003).
Other then the villages the organisation also runs residential schools, day schools, day care centres, ...
