Visited the Carters for May and what a difference a month makes! Followed the Joe Dodge cutoff to Imp to North Carter then Carter Moriah over to Zeta Pass then up to Carter Dome and down 19 Mile brook trail. This loop is about 12.5 miles and the trails right now are in pretty rough shape. Not much snow left until you get to the top of Carter Dome then there is still a few ft of soft monorail near the top. The ridge all the way to Zeta pass is slowly getting cleared of blowdowns. Lots of erosion and water on the trails, downed trees everywhere but I guess this is hiking in the Whites in May! Gorgeous day with a special treat of a double lenticular cloud formation on the way home!
